Pretoria – President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Minister Stella Ndabeni as Acting Minister of Health while Minister Aaron Motsoaledi remains on sick leave.
The appointment takes effect from Monday, 24 August 2026, and will remain in place until 30 September 2026, according to the Presidency.
The Presidency said Ramaphosa made the appointment in terms of Section 98 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.
“President Cyril Ramaphosa has in terms of section 98 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa of 1996, appointed Minister Stella Ndabeni as Acting Minister of Health with effect from 24 August to 30 September 2026,” the Presidency said in a statement.
Ndabeni will assume the full responsibilities of the Health Minister during the period.
“Minister Ndabeni will undertake all functions of the Minister of Health for the said period while Minister Motsoaledi remains on sick leave,” the Presidency said.
The appointment temporarily places Ndabeni at the helm of the Health Department as the government continues to manage the country’s public healthcare system.
The Presidency did not provide further details about Motsoaledi’s illness or indicate when he is expected to return to his duties.
