Man allegedly run over and dragged by vehicle in Limpopo soccer ground attack

Letsitele – Police in Letsitele, Limpopo, have launched a manhunt for a suspect after a 39-year-old man was allegedly deliberately run over with a vehicle near Xipungu soccer ground.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the incident occurred at about 3:30pm on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

“It is alleged that a 39-year-old male victim from Xipungu village was walking from a local tavern to the nearby soccer ground when he was knocked down from behind by a maroon VW Polo motor vehicle,” polie said in a sgtatement.
“The victim stood up and confronted the driver to ask why he was knocked down. The suspect allegedly drove off and struck the victim with the side mirror of the vehicle.
“The 39-year-old male victim fell to the ground and the rear wheel drove over his right shoulder while dragging him  onto a tarred road.”

He sustained upper-body injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Police have opened a case of attempted murder and are searching for a suspect identified as Lazarus Khoza, whom investigators have urged to report to the nearest police station to assist with the investigation.

No arrests have been made.

Investigations are continuing.
