Durban – Two suspected armed robbers were shot and killed, while a third was injured, during a shootout with police in KwaMsane, northern KwaZulu-Natal, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The chase continued from Hluhluwe to KwaMsane, where an exchange of gunfire allegedly broke out between police and the suspects.
SAPS said three suspects were initially believed to have been fatally wounded during the shootout. However, one of the suspects later regained consciousness while forensic experts were processing the scene and was rushed to hospital under police guard.
Police recovered three firearms from the suspects and have launched a search for at least three more suspects believed to have escaped.
The circumstances surrounding the robbery and the subsequent shootout are under investigation.
No police injuries were reported.
