Johannesburg – Nine law enforcement officers, including members of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), South African Police Service (SAPS) and a Gauteng traffic warden, have appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of corruption, extortion and trespassing.
The officers were arrested in various parts of Gauteng in the early hours of 23 April 2026 by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s Serious Corruption Investigation unit based in Johannesburg.
According to police, the group allegedly entered a warehouse in Crown Mines where they conducted a search and found a box of suspected expired dye.
It is further alleged that they then solicited money from the complainant, who subsequently reported the incident to the Hawks.
The accused include six JMPD officers, two SAPS members attached to Brixton, and a Gauteng Traffic warden.
The case has been postponed to 28 April 2026 for a formal bail application. All nine accused were remanded in custody pending their next court appearance.
