Polokwane – A 59-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Polokwane High Court for the premeditated murder of his wife, a nurse who was shot dead outside a Limpopo hospital in October 2024.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the sentence handed down on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, against Molabe Fannie Seribishane.
Seribishane was convicted for the murder of his 52-year-old wife, Mamsy Seribishane, who was fatally shot on 22 October 2024 while arriving for duty at Lebowakgomo Hospital.
According to court evidence, the victim was attacked at around 17:30 near the hospital gate by a gunman who fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Golf 7.
A murder case was opened at Lebowakgomo SAPS and later assigned to the Provincial Detectives and Tracking Team, led by Captain Phaladi Makola.
Investigations revealed that the accused had orchestrated the killing while the couple was in the process of divorce and despite an existing protection order against him.
He was arrested on 13 November 2024 when members of the Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Investigation Unit apprehended him while he was visiting his residence. Police also recovered a 9mm pistol in his possession, which was later confirmed through ballistic analysis to have been linked to the murder.
Further digital forensic evidence, presented by a DPCI cellphone expert, placed the accused at the crime scene and strengthened the State’s case.
The prosecution, led by Advocate David Sebelebele, successfully argued that the murder was carefully planned and executed. The court found that the accused showed no remorse and rejected his denial of involvement.
Unfit to possess a firearm
Judge Karin Leanee Pillay described the State’s case as “watertight” in her judgment.
Seribishane was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, six years for contravening the Domestic Violence Act, 15 years for possession of an unlicensed firearm, and six years for possession of ammunition. The additional sentences will run concurrently with the life term.
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The court further advised the victim’s family of their right to make representations during future parole proceedings.
The South African Police Service said the sentence sends a strong message against gender-based violence and domestic-related killings, praising investigators and prosecutors for securing the conviction.
