Durban – A hijacking suspect was shot dead in Klaarwater on Tuesday after allegedly opening fire on a security officer who had arrived at the scene of an armed vehicle theft.
According to reports, a Tracker Connect officer drove into the scene where a gang had just hijacked a Toyota Quantum at gunpoint.
The suspects allegedly opened fire on the officer’s vehicle, prompting him to return fire in self-defence.
One of the alleged hijackers was struck and later died at the scene, while the remaining suspects fled.

A coordinated response involving the Chatsworth SAPS Tracing Team, Mariannhill SAPS, Durban Metro Police K9 unit, Tracker Connect, Fatima Protection Services, Blue Security and PT Alarms was launched.
Authorities confirmed that a second suspect was later arrested and two firearms were recovered during the operation.
The security officer involved escaped unharmed.
Police are continuing investigations into the incident.
