Polokwane – The grandparents of missing two-year-old Omphile Sethole appeared in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Monday after being arrested for alleged child negligence linked to the toddler’s disappearance.
According to the South African Police Service, Nkgalakana Vinolia Mabusela, 52, and Lesiba Jacob Ledwaba, 55, were arrested by members of the Mokopane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
The pair were remanded in custody until 25 May 2026 for a formal bail application.
Police said cases of housebreaking and kidnapping were initially opened after the child’s grandmother reportedly discovered her missing at about 06:00, with a window left open in the room.
At the time of her disappearance, Omphile was wearing a pink jersey and black tights.
Police confirmed that the child remains missing and investigations into her disappearance are ongoing.
Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding Omphile’s whereabouts to contact investigating officer Warrant Officer Chuene Selolo on 082 469 2594, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, the nearest police station, or to submit information anonymously through the MySAPSApp.
