Johannesburg – Gauteng is facing the possibility of snowfall on Monday night and Tuesday as a severe cold front brings freezing temperatures across the province.
According to Gauteng Weather, southern and eastern Gauteng, including Johannesburg, could receive snow, with some weather models predicting accumulations of more than 10cm in certain areas.
The province is also expected to experience strong winds of up to 45km/h, potentially causing infrastructure damage.

Tuesday is forecast to be the coldest day, with Johannesburg temperatures ranging from 1°C to 4°C, Vereeniging from 0°C to 5°C, and Pretoria from 3°C to 7°C.
Meanwhile, heavy snowfall is already affecting parts of the Eastern Cape, where the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 6 warning for several municipalities.
The snow could disrupt traffic, damage crops and livestock, interrupt essential services and temporarily cut off some communities.
The last confirmed snowfall in Johannesburg occurred on 10 July 2023, when several parts of Gauteng were covered in snow.
