Mpumalanga – A disbarred attorney accused of stealing more than R2 million from clients’ estate and trust funds has been released on bail after appearing in the White River Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga.
Clea Hattingh, 43, was granted R5,000 bail on Friday following her arrest by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit based in Nelspruit.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), Hattingh handed herself over to investigators after a warrant for her arrest had been issued.
She allegedly stole estate and trust funds belonging to her clients, with the amount involved estimated to exceed R2 million.
As part of her bail conditions, Hattingh has been ordered to surrender her travel documents to the investigating officer, avoid contact with state witnesses and report to her nearest police station once a week.
