Soweto – An 86-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man have been shot dead at a home in Soweto-on-Sea, Gqeberha, prompting a police investigation into a double murder.
The bodies were discovered at a house in Sebothe Street at about 01:20 on Monday, 12 October, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Preliminary information suggests the elderly woman may have been shot after getting out of bed to investigate a disturbance at the door. The young man was found in his bed.
Both victims sustained gunshot wounds, but police said no items were reported stolen from the home.
“The suspect or suspects have not yet been identified, and the motive for the killings is unknown,” police said.
The names of the deceased will be released once they have been formally identified.
Kwazakele police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killings. No suspects have been identified.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact Lieutenant Colonel Williams on 082 442 0963 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Information can also be submitted through the MySAPS app, and tip-offs may be provided anonymously.
