Johannesburg – Gauteng residents have been warned to prepare for a cold snap expected from Thursday, with temperatures in parts of the province forecast to drop to freezing levels.
According to Gauteng Weather, Johannesburg could reach a low of 0°C on Friday, while Pretoria is expected to drop to 2°C.
Emergency services are on high alert and have urged residents to use heating devices such as heaters, braziers, paraffin stoves and candles safely, warning against leaving them unattended due to the increased risk of house fires.
The cold front forms part of a broader weather system affecting much of South Africa.
The South African Weather Service has also warned of very cold, wet and windy conditions in parts of the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape from 3 to 4 June, with cloudy weather and fog patches expected in several provinces.
