Cape Town – Chief Justice Raymond Zondo is set to retire next week after 27 and a half years on the bench.
A special ceremonial sitting of the Constitutional Court will be held on 21 August, the day of his last judgment, followed by a farewell dinner in his honour.
Zondo, who has a distinguished career in law, served as a Constitutional Court justice since 2012 and was appointed Chief Justice in April 2022.

He also led the State Capture Commission, delivering a significant six-part report.
Deputy Chief Justice Mandisa Maya will succeed him, becoming South Africa’s first female Chief Justice.
