North West – A 32-year-old woman has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder after she allegedly scalded another woman with boiling water during an argument in Pholarpark, Rosendal, in North West.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the incident occurred on Friday afternoon, 31 July 2026, prompting Huhudi police to respond to reports of an assault.
“Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a 32-year-old woman with severe burn injuries to her upper body. The victim was in severe pain and unable to speak,” SAPS said in a statement.
Police immediately summoned Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the victim was rushed to a local hospital, where she was admitted for medical treatment.
“The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was admitted for medical treatment,” police said.
SAPS said the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is expected to appear before the Vryburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 3 August 2026, on a charge of attempted murder.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Arthur Adams, condemned the attack and urged residents to resolve disputes without resorting to violence.
“He said no disagreement justifies an act of violence that places another person’s life at risk,” SAPS said.
Adams also praised officers for their swift response to the incident.
“He commended the swift response by police members and said police will remain committed to ensuring that those who commit violent crimes are brought before the courts to face the consequences of their actions,” the statement added.
Police have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the argument, and investigations into the attempted murder case are continuing.
