Thohoyandou – Police in Tshamutumbu, Limpopo, are investigating a carjacking and kidnapping after four armed suspects allegedly abducted a farm worker and drove away in his vehicle before abandoning it in the Limpopo River.
The incident happened at a farm in the Vhembe District at about 11.30am on Saturday, 8 August 2026, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Police said the victim was working on the farm when he was approached by four unknown men, one of whom was armed with a firearm and another with a knife.
The suspects allegedly demanded his vehicle before forcing him into the loading area and covering his face.
“The suspects reportedly demanded the victim’s vehicle. They then forced him into the loading area of the vehicle and covered his face before driving away with him,” SAPS said.
The suspects allegedly drove the victim to another farm near the Limpopo River, where they abandoned him before fleeing in his vehicle.
The stolen vehicle, a white Toyota Land Cruiser valued at about R700,000, was later recovered abandoned in the middle of the Limpopo River.
SAPS said the vehicle was missing its battery and spare wheel when it was recovered.
No arrests have been reported.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that could help identify or locate the suspects to come forward.

“The Police investigations are continuing,” SAPS said.
