Johannesburg – The South African Police Service (SAPS) has bid farewell to its longest-serving pilot, Lieutenant Colonel “Div” de Villiers, following his retirement after 46 years of service.
In a social media post on Friday, SAPS said it had honoured De Villiers for his decades of distinguished service to the organisation.
“This week, the SAPS rendered a heartfelt farewell to its longest serving pilot, Lieutenant Colonel ‘Div’ de Villiers, who retired with 46 years of distinguished service in the organisation,” the police said.
As part of the farewell, the retired officer was scheduled to reflect on his career during a radio interview on SAfm on Friday afternoon.
The interview, which aired at 5.20pm, gave listeners an opportunity to hear De Villiers recount highlights from his nearly five decades in the police service and his contribution to SAPS aviation.
SAPS did not provide further details about his career achievements or successor.
