Bothaville – Four men aged between 33 and 48 have been arrested on the R30 in Bothaville, Free State, for allegedly being in possession of stolen copper cable and counterfeit goods.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the arrests followed a tip-off received on Friday, April 17, 2026, about a vehicle suspected of being involved in copper cable theft across several policing precincts.
Police later spotted a vehicle matching the description and stopped it near the local traffic department offices along the R30.
The four occupants were immediately arrested.
SAPS said officers seized copper cable weighing approximately 124kg, with an estimated value of R11,160.
A Ford Ranger believed to have been used in the commission of the crime was also confiscated, along with the suspected counterfeit items, which will undergo further investigation.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Bothaville Magistrate’s Court soon on charges related to the possession of stolen copper cable and counterfeit goods.
