Durban – A 12-year-old boy fled on foot after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a vehicle in Tea Estate, Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday morning.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), emergency personnel were dispatched to the corner of Hilltop Drive and Hilltop Road at about 8:35am following reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.
RUSA said the boy was riding a Big Boy motorcycle when it collided with a green Nissan Almera.
“On arrival, the 61-year-old driver of a green Nissan Almera explained that he was stationary at a stop street when a Big Boy motorcycle travelling along Hilltop Road collided with the left side of his vehicle,” RUSA said.
The boy allegedly abandoned the motorcycle at the scene and ran away on foot before emergency personnel could locate him.
“The minor abandoned the motorcycle at the scene and fled on foot,” RUSA said.
The boy’s father later arrived at the scene and agreed to cover the cost of repairing the damaged vehicle.
“His father later arrived and agreed to cover the repair costs. Both parties reached an agreement and declined further assistance,” the reaction unit said.
RUSA said the boy could not immediately be located and no injuries were reported following the collision.
The circumstances surrounding how the 12-year-old came to be riding the motorcycle were not disclosed.
RUSA did not indicate whether police were called to investigate the incident.
