Annual trade between Africa and India averaged 8.4% of the latter country’s global trade figure between 2006 and 2016.

As reported by How We Made It In Africa, data by the International Trade Centre shows that trade between the two regions reached its peak in 2014 at US$73.4 billion. It has since taken a knock due to a decline in commodity prices.

Between 2006 and 2016, however, Africa accumulated a net positive US$99.1 billion trade balance with India.

The majority of African exports to India are commodities, while Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Tanzania and Kenya are the top five African trade partners. Oil from Nigeria, Angola and Equatorial Guinea is a key export, as is copper from Zambia, followed by precious metals such as platinum and gold from South Africa and diamonds from Botswana.
