Cape Town – Police in Gauteng have reportedly arrested a 31-year-old man who has been on their “most wanted” list and is believed to be a member of the notorious Boko Haram gang in Mamelodi, Pretoria.
According to reports, police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said the suspect was arrested in Mamelodi on Sunday.
The Boko Haram gang was allegedly involved in robberies, extortion, intimidation and other serious and violent crimes in Mamelodi and surrounding areas.
“The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng has welcomed the arrest of this suspect and commended the police team that worked so hard to ensure that this most wanted suspect is behind bars. The suspect is expected to appear at Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 December 2021,” SABC quoted Masondo as saying.
The arrest was the first of an alleged Boko Haram gang member following a recent spate of killings in Mamelodi, which have left nine people dead, News24 reported.
The suspect has not been charged with any of the murders, the report said.
He was also believed to have been involved in a chain store robbery in Mamelodi where an undisclosed amount of cash and groceries were taken.
