Johannesburg – President Cyril Ramaphosa and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa are set to address the South Africa-Zimbabwe Business Forum in Midrand on Friday as the two countries seek to deepen trade and investment ties.
The forum will be held at the Gallagher Convention Centre and forms part of the programme of the fourth session of the South Africa-Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission (BNC), which is being hosted by Ramaphosa in Pretoria.
The Presidency said the forum would bring together government representatives, business leaders and other stakeholders from both countries to explore opportunities to expand economic cooperation.
“The Business Forum provides a platform for the private sector to engage directly with government on opportunities and challenges affecting trade and investment between South Africa and Zimbabwe,” the Presidency said.
The meeting is also expected to focus on turning political commitments between the two governments into concrete business opportunities.
“It will also seek to translate the political commitments made by the two Heads of State into practical economic partnerships and opportunities for businesses in both countries,” the Presidency said.
The forum comes as South Africa and Zimbabwe seek to strengthen regional economic integration, industrialisation and inclusive economic growth.
The Presidency said the discussions would also support the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) regional integration agenda.
