Cape Town – Asset manager Coronation Asset Management has reduced its beneficial interest in The SPAR Group, cutting its stake in the JSE-listed retailer from 10.89% to 9.53%.
SPAR said on Thursday it had received formal notification from Coronation, acting on behalf of its clients, that it had disposed of a portion of its beneficial interest in the company’s ordinary shares.
“Following the Disposal, Coronation now holds 9.53% of the total issued ordinary share capital of the Company, representing a decrease from the 10.89% previously held,” SPAR said in a market announcement.
The disposal was disclosed in terms of Section 122(3)(b) of the Companies Act and paragraph 6.54 of the JSE Listings Requirements, which require shareholders to be notified when significant changes occur in beneficial ownership.
SPAR said it had filed the required notification with the Takeover Regulation Panel and the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), in line with the Companies Act.
The disclosure was published through the JSE’s Stock Exchange News Service (SENS) on Thursday, 27 August 2026.
Coronation’s reduced holding comes as SPAR continues to navigate changes in the highly competitive South African retail market, with investors closely watching shifts in the company’s shareholder base.
One Capital is SPAR’s sponsor.
