Johannesburg – Johannesburg’s Park Hyatt has been named Africa’s Leading New Hotel for 2026, adding another major accolade to the luxury property less than two years after it opened in Rosebank.
According to BusinessTech, the five-star hotel opened in 2025 and has 31 rooms, with nightly rates ranging from about R6,000 to R13,000 for one person.
The award was announced at the 2026 World Travel Awards Africa Gala, where the Park Hyatt took the title of Africa’s Leading New Hotel.
The World Travel Awards lists the Johannesburg property among its 2026 winners and describes the awards as recognising excellence across the global travel and tourism industry.
The latest recognition adds to an increasingly strong list of international accolades. The hotel was included in TIME magazine’s World’s Greatest Places 2026, while the Michelin Guide awarded it one MICHELIN Key in its 2025 hotel selection.
TIME praised the property for offering “a level of boutique service still rare in the city”, while noting that, despite having a major international brand behind it, “the boutique property doesn’t lack personality.”
Lavish in size
The hotel occupies a restored 1930s property in Rosebank, with its architecture influenced by renowned South African architect Sir Herbert Baker. Its design centres on a courtyard featuring a Jacaranda tree, heated pool and sculptures, while artworks are displayed throughout the hotel.
The Michelin Guide describes the rooms as “lavish in size”, highlighting their high ceilings, deep marble baths, local textiles and vintage-style illustrations.
Its culinary offering is anchored by Room 32, a restaurant named as a play on the property’s 31 rooms. Hyatt says the restaurant offers “an elegant, contemporary atmosphere inspired by Johannesburg’s rich heritage”, while the Michelin Guide notes its open-fire cooking and extensive South African wine selection.
The Park Hyatt’s growing international profile comes as Johannesburg continues to strengthen its position as a destination for high-end tourism and hospitality, with the property combining the intimacy of a small boutique hotel with the resources of the global Hyatt brand.
