Cape Town – Actress Gail Mabalane has spoken out about the abrupt cancellation of the SABC telenovela Pimville, expressing sympathy for the cast and crew whose livelihoods were affected.
The production was taken off air in May following a dispute between the SABC and production company Bakwena Productions.
Mabalane, who portrayed Detective Pheello Mohapi in the series, took to Instagram on Tuesday to reflect on the show’s sudden end and the impact it has had on those involved.

The award-winning actress said her thoughts were with the many people who lost a source of income following the cancellation.
“I woke up today thinking of #Pimville. The cast, the crew … the countless individuals still navigating life after the abrupt end to a stream of income. Imagine, one day you’re at work making TV, and the next, you see this post on social media.
“This beautiful story deserved to be told … it should still be on air. Our beloved viewers! Honestly, as creatives and as an industry, we deserve better than this,” she wrote.
Mabalane’s comments highlight the ongoing impact of Pimville’s cancellation on those who worked behind the scenes and in front of the camera, as well as on viewers who had been following the telenovela before it was unexpectedly taken off air.
