Cape Town – Award-winning artist, Bulelwa Mkutukana, popularly known as Zahara, has for a long time claimed that DJ Sbu’s defunct record label TS Records owes her millions of rands.
According to Drum, Zahara signed a recording deal with TS Records, a record label, founded by DJ Sbu and Thembinkosi Nciza. They released her debut album Loliwe, which became one of the fastest-selling albums.
She later claimed that the record label owed her money.
In her recent Channel-O interview with MacG on Podcast and Chill, Zahara maintained that TS Records owed her millions of rands.
“They still owe me. It’s for real bruh, I went to the news.

“I don’t want to relive the past, mina. As much as, yes, they owe me so much, the problem is if I do not have money, then I have to go to court all the time and I have to hire a lawyer. Then I have to pay the lawyer with the money I don’t have,” Zahara said.
According to The Citizen, Zahara claimed two years ago that she wasn’t paid for months by the label, resulting in her being unable to pay her bills.
However, during an interview on Massive Metro recently, DJ Sbu dismissed the 33-year-old musician’s claims, saying she was not aware that she was the one who actually owed the record label some money.
“… and the same with my sister Zahara. We made history together… I miss you Bulelwa, I miss you. But then what I don’t like is when she goes out and says I owe her money because you know that’s a lie.
Zahara lied about TS Records of DJ Sbu that they owe her money, is actually the opposite.

“And if you go down to the books at Universal Music, she actually owes us money and she doesn’t know that. Zahara was getting paid 50% royalty rate and TS records was getting paid 50% and it wasn’t supposed to be like that.
“The contract was [that] she was supposed to get a little bit lesser than that and the company gets a little bit more. But throughout the Universal career of Zahara’s TS records career, Zahara was getting 50/50 – 50 the whole company, 50 as an artist,” DJ Sbu said.
Zahara parted ways with TS records in 2017.
