Johannesburg – SABC News anchor Leanne Manas has dismissed viral social media claims that she resigned from the public broadcaster, confirming that she remains part of the Morning Live team.
The presenter addressed the speculation during a live broadcast from the SABC studios after unverified claims about her alleged departure circulated online, including on TikTok.
“Believe it or not, I actually am still at work. I’m right here, as you see me,” Manas said.
She warned viewers about fake social media accounts impersonating her and urged the public not to believe unverified reports about her career.
“I’m still part, and very proudly so, of the Morning Live team. So please disregard any of those conflicting reports and unverified profiles,” she said.
Manas also raised concerns about the growing spread of disinformation online, saying fake news accounts could have a devastating impact on the public.
“There is just so much disinformation out there. It’s absolutely frightening,” she said, adding that people needed to be careful about accounts pretending to represent others.
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) also rejected the claims, issuing a statement through its official platforms to clarify Manas’ employment status.
“SABC News wishes to clarify that reports circulating on social media regarding Morning Live Anchor Leanne Manas’ alleged resignation from the organisation are false,” the broadcaster said.
It encouraged the public to avoid spreading unverified information and to rely on credible news sources and verified accounts for accurate updates.
The clarification came after the rumours gained traction online, prompting questions about the future of the long-serving breakfast television presenter on the programme.
Manas also addressed the speculation in a post on her official Facebook profile, where she confirmed that she had not resigned and would return to viewers’ screens after taking a week off.
“I have absolutely NOT resigned from the SABC! I’m very much still part of the public broadcaster and will be back on your screens tomorrow after a beautiful week off!” she wrote.
She also denied operating any TikTok accounts.
“Every TikTok account claiming to be me is FAKE. I have never posted a single thing on that platform,” Manas said.
The presenter ended her message on a lighter note, teasing photographs from her recent getaway.
Her response and the SABC’s statement put the rumours to rest, confirming that Manas remains part of Morning Live and that claims of her resignation were false.
