Cape Town – Media personality and medical doctor Dr Musa Mthombeni has added another remarkable achievement to his already impressive career in healthcare.
The Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologist recently announced that he has officially qualified as a Neurointerventionist after successfully completing his sub-specialty training.
Sharing the news with his followers on Instagram, Dr Musa expressed his excitement about reaching the significant milestone.
“Vukani! Sekunjalo! Daddies are up! After over a year of very early mornings, parking lot complaints about people wanting to scratch my #Vclass, late nights in angiotheatre and probably consuming way too much coffee, I’ve officially wrapped up my sub-specialty training in Interventional Neuroradiology / Endovascular Neurosurgery.

“Translation: I am now a fully qualified Neurointerventionist. Yes, you can trust me around your brain’s blood vessels. Phakathi inside!
“I am so excited to step into this next chapter, apply these skills, and change some lives in a field I have absolutely fallen in love with.”
A neurointerventionist is a highly specialised doctor who diagnoses and treats disorders affecting the blood vessels of the brain, head, neck and spine using minimally invasive procedures. These specialists use advanced imaging technology and tiny catheters inserted through blood vessels to treat conditions such as strokes, aneurysms and other potentially life-threatening neurological disorders without the need for major surgery.
Dr Musa also took the opportunity to thank those who supported him throughout the demanding fellowship programme.

“A big thank you to Dr Ro (If I know what I’m doing today, it’s entirely his fault), my colleagues, my mentors, my incredible wife (who deserves a medal for putting up with my fellowship schedule and me doing unscheduled DSAs every two days), and my family. I couldn’t have done it without your unwavering support – and your tolerance of me talking about blood vessels 24/7. Time to get to work!”
His message reflected the dedication required to complete the specialised training, while highlighting the crucial role played by his mentors, colleagues, friends and family throughout the journey.
The achievement comes less than a year after another major academic success. In July 2025, Dr Musa graduated with a Master of Medicine degree in Diagnostic Radiology from the University of the Witwatersrand.
While many South Africans first came to know him through his work in the media and entertainment industry, Dr Musa continues to establish himself as a respected medical professional. His latest qualification is a testament to years of hard work, perseverance and commitment to advancing healthcare in South Africa.
