Cape Town – South African musician Bongekile Simelane, better known as “Babes Wodumo”, has cleared the air after a viral video of her hurling insults at her mother-in-law set Twitter abuzz.
The “gqom queen” recently went on Instagram Live and slammed her mother-in-law for allegedly abandoning her husband, Mandla Maphumulo, also known as Mampitsha, when he was only 3-days-old.
A clip from her Instagram Live went viral on social media, attracting the attention of Twitter users who were concerned about the musician.
In the clip, Babe Wodumo is heard comparing Mampitsha’s mom to a dog. She’s also heard threatening to beat her up.

Calming everyone down, Babes Wodumo later took to her Instagram page again to release a statement to “set the record straight”.
She said that owing to the late release of her new EP, Crown, she felt the need to capture people’s attention, and the video achieved exactly that.
It was all part of a publicity stunt, she claimed.
