Cape Town – DJ Sox is mourning the death of his 10-year-old son, Busa, who died on Sunday after battling severe pneumonia and spending two months in intensive care on life support.
The grieving father shared the news in an emotional tribute, describing his son’s bravery throughout his illness and the heartbreak of losing him at such a young age.
“My precious Busa, on Sunday, I lost you at the tender age of just ten years, and my heart is broken,” he wrote.
“My boy, you fought a good fight. You were so brave, and I am so proud of you.”
DJ Sox said the loss had left him struggling to imagine life without his son, admitting that he missed him more than words could express.
“No parent can ever be ready for the pain of losing a child so young. I miss you more than words can explain, and it hurts knowing I won’t get to hold you again,” he said.
Despite his grief, the DJ said he continued to trust in God, expressing hope that Busa was now at peace.
“Even through this heartbreak, I trust God and His will, though I may not understand it. I believe you are resting safely in His loving arms and that you will be one of His beautiful angels,” he wrote.
In his tribute, DJ Sox also expressed gratitude to the doctors and nurses who cared for Busa during his two-month stay in intensive care.
He thanked them for their dedication and efforts to save his son’s life, while acknowledging the friends and supporters who had stood by him and his wife during the difficult period.
“To all our friends who supported my wife and me through this difficult time, thank you. Your love, prayers and kindness have helped carry us through, and we are deeply grateful,” he wrote.
The DJ also spoke about the pain of facing the days ahead without his son, saying he would carry Busa in his heart for the rest of his life.
“I love you, my boy. I’m going to miss you every day, and I will carry you in my heart for the rest of my life,” he said.
He ended the tribute with a heartfelt farewell: “Rest peacefully, my precious son. I love you, Busa.”
The tribute prompted an outpouring of condolences from friends and social media users, many of whom shared memories of Busa and offered prayers for the family.
NomaZwide Mkhatshwa recalled seeing Busa regularly with his mother while she worked at Woolworths in Sunningdale, saying she had watched him grow over the years.
“To even think 2022 when I started working at Woolworths Sunningdale Mrs Sokhela would come to our store every week with her handsome Busa ehleli in the trolly eating whatever snack his mom gave him,” she wrote.
“Wakhula phambi kwethu I remember this year when the year started I spoke to his mom about how shocked I am that Busa is so grown.”
Mkhatshwa ended her message by expressing her sympathy for the family and wishing Busa’s soul peace.
Another commenter, Gerry Zipho Linda, shared an emotional message of support, saying she was heartbroken by the news and thinking of DJ Sox and his wife.
“Kodwa Mbusi Sokhela!! My heart goes out to the whole fam, but ESPECIALLY you and G!! I’m heartbroken, and I am truly at a loss for words!” she wrote.
She said she found some comfort in knowing that Busa was no longer in pain after his illness.
“Mbusi, you are all in my thoughts and prayers! This cuts way too deep as you know he was the same age as my daughter!” she added.
Linda also wished the family strength as they navigate their loss, ending her message with a tribute to Busa.
“May his precious soul rest in painless peace. Fly high with the angels Busa!”
