Cape Town – DJ Lamiez Holworthy-Morule has opened up about the health emergency that left her hospitalised on Women’s Day, revealing that a ruptured ovarian cyst led to emergency surgery and internal bleeding.
Holworthy-Morule was rushed to hospital on 9 August after a recurring cyst ruptured, forcing her to postpone several scheduled appearances.
At the time, her management said her condition was not life-threatening and asked the public to respect her privacy while she recovered.
In an Instagram video update, Holworthy-Morule explained that she had been experiencing recurring cysts that caused severe pain and had previously been advised by her doctor to undergo an emergency operation.
However, she said she asked her doctor to allow her to complete 11 work commitments before undergoing the procedure.
She eventually suffered a medical emergency while travelling between scheduled appearances in Brits.
“Well? God showed me that we choose but HE decides. So the cyst that had now grown bigger than my womb burst on Women’s Day,” she said.
Holworthy-Morule said she was rushed into surgery at about 9am, with doctors discovering additional cysts that were later identified as endometriosis.
Her ordeal did not end there.

She said she had to undergo another emergency procedure after suffering internal bleeding and was later told that she had lost a significant amount of blood and required a transfusion.
“I cried. I was so defeated and mostly upset at my body for allowing it to let this happen,” she said.
She also used her experience to urge women not to ignore unusual symptoms or persistent pain.
“Ladies, if you experience abnormal period or back pains, please visit your nearest doctor. I nearly lost my life because I ignored mine and chose to put work first.”
Holworthy-Morule also addressed speculation surrounding her hospitalisation, dismissing claims that she had undergone a Brazilian butt lift, commonly known as a BBL.
Instead, she said the emergency was linked to her recurring cysts and endometriosis.
Reflecting on the experience, she said her health had forced her to reconsider the pressure to keep working despite warning signs from her body.
“Living with constant pain isn’t normal nor is there any honour in working yourself to death, I learnt that the hard way.”
Her message comes as she encourages women to prioritise their health and seek medical attention when they experience unusual symptoms, rather than continuing to push through pain.
