Cape Town – Actress and activist Nomzamo Mbatha has sparked debate online after reacting to the R2.595 million asking price of a small studio apartment in Cape Town’s Sea Point.
Mbatha shared a screenshot of the Property24 listing on her Instagram Stories and tagged the City of Cape Town, questioning the price of the property.
“Have a glass of shame,” Mbatha wrote.
“The things happening in the property market in that beautiful city is actually deeply concerning,” she added.
The listing was for a studio apartment at the ONE26 ON M development on Main Road in Sea Point.
According to the listing shared by Mbatha, the 20-square-metre unit was advertised for R2.595 million and featured 0.5 bedrooms and one bathroom.

Mbatha’s reaction prompted mixed responses online, with some social media users agreeing that property prices in parts of Cape Town have become unaffordable.
One user, Lihle, agreed with the actress and said some people had become accustomed to high property prices.
“Truth be told, unfortunately some of our people see nothing wrong with that,” Lihle said.
Another user, Hlela, argued that the asking price was typical of the Sea Point property market.
“This seems on brand for Sea Point… that market is definitely not for South Africans. This is what you find in New York, a glorified closet,” Hlela said.
The reactions have renewed discussion around property prices in Cape Town, particularly in sought-after areas such as Sea Point, where high demand and limited space have contributed to steep property prices.
