Johannesburg – Thousands of motorists in South Africa are being urged to check whether their vehicles are affected by new safety recalls involving the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Lexus GX and UX.
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) announced the recalls on 23 September, covering 2,575 vehicles supplied in South Africa. The recalls involve software faults affecting instrument displays and airbag systems.
The largest recall affects 2,279 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicles made available between 5 December 2023 and 7 August 2025.
According to the NCC, a software error may prevent the combination meter from properly starting, resulting in a blank display. This means important warnings, including those relating to engine oil pressure, coolant temperature and electrical charging, may not appear.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee WL recall affects 255 vehicles, of which 251 were sold in South Africa. The problem concerns software in the Airbag Control Unit that may leave door airbag pressure sensor faults active, potentially causing delayed deployment of the side airbags in certain crashes.
The recall also affects 41 Lexus GX and UX vehicles sold nationally between April 2024 and September 2025. They have a similar airbag-control software issue that could delay side-airbag deployment.
The NCC said the airbag problem could reduce protection for front-seat occupants and increase the risk of injury in certain crashes.
“Consumers who own any of the affected vehicles are urged to immediately visit their nearest authorised dealership to arrange for an inspection and repair,” the commission said.
It added that “any corrective work relating to this recall will be carried out at no cost to the consumer.”
