‘I’ll murder you now’: Sandton restaurant tightens security after man threatens women with shooting

Johannesburg – A Sandton restaurant has vowed to strengthen security and maintain “zero tolerance” for threatening behaviour after a man was filmed allegedly threatening to shoot women at the establishment.

The incident took place at Vlamo restaurant at Sandton Gate and was captured in a video that has since gone viral.

According to reports, the man followed the women into a bathroom and was heard saying: “I’ll murder you now and walk” and “I’ll put a bullet in all of you.”

Vlamo said the man was not affiliated with the restaurant and was removed once management became aware of the incident.

“We take the safety, dignity and wellbeing of women as well as other guests and our team extremely seriously,” the restaurant said, adding that it has “zero tolerance for behaviour that compromises the safety or experience of anyone within the establishment.”

According to The Citizen, Vlamo and the affected women reported the incident to the South African Police Service and the restaurant said it would provide footage and other information to assist the investigation. The restaurant also plans to have visible security personnel on the premises.

The Justice, Crime Prevention and Security cluster has urged the women to formally open criminal cases, saying threats of violence must be taken seriously and reported.

“The victims in these video clips are encouraged to come forward and open criminal cases against the ruffian seen threatening women with being shot and killed,” it said.
