Oaklands, KwaZulu-Natal – A man was assaulted with a hammer and robbed of his cellphone and R2,000 in cash during an alleged robbery in Oaklands, KwaZulu-Natal.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said the incident occurred on Oaklands Drive at about 18:30 on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, as the victim was returning home.
According to RUSA, the man was confronted by two men, one armed with a hammer and the other carrying stones.
“He stated that he was returning home at approximately 18:30 yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, 25/08/2026) when he was confronted by two (2) men,” RUSA said in a statement.
“The robbers assaulted him before stealing one (1) Samsung Galaxy A56 cellphone and R2,000 in cash which he had received as wages.”
The suspects allegedly fled after taking the victim’s belongings.
A passerby later heard the injured man calling for help from his room and contacted RUSA’s Operations Centre.
RUSA said the victim only sought medical assistance on Wednesday after noticing significant swelling in his left knee.
“The man only requested medical assistance today after noticing excessive swelling to his left knee,” the organisation said.
He also sustained a head injury during the assault.
RUSA officers were dispatched to the man’s residence in Redcliffe after the organisation received a call for assistance.
The suspects remain at large, and the circumstances surrounding the robbery are expected to be investigated by police.
