Cape Town – Western Cape police have seized drugs worth an estimated R1.5 million during an intelligence-driven operation in Khayelitsha, with a 57-year-old woman arrested for allegedly dealing in drugs.
Members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team, working with the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, conducted the operation at premises in Raymond Mhlaba Crescent, Mandela Park, at about 3:30am on Monday, 24 August 2026.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), police recovered 7,777 mandrax tablets and 1.6kg of crystal methamphetamine during the search.
“As Western Cape police intensify efforts to rid communities of drugs, members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team, together with the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, confiscated 7 777 mandrax tablets and 1.6 kilograms of crystal meth in Mandela Park, Khayelitsha,” SAPS said in a statement.
Police said the operation was intelligence-driven and targeted a property in Raymond Mhlaba Crescent.
“The members conducted an intelligence-driven operation at premises in Raymond Mhlaba Crescent on Monday, 24 August 2026, at about 03:30,” the police statement said.
A 57-year-old woman was found at the premises and arrested after the drugs were allegedly discovered during the search.
“They found a 57-year-old female suspect and, during the search, police recovered drugs worth R1.5 million,” SAPS said.
The woman was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
She is expected to make her first appearance in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once she has been formally charged.
The latest seizure forms part of ongoing police operations targeting the distribution of illegal drugs in communities across the Western Cape.
Police said the operation was aimed at disrupting the supply of drugs and removing them from circulation.
The investigation is continuing.
