Johannesburg – JSE-listed platinum producer Impala Platinum (Implats) expects a sharp increase in full-year earnings, supported by higher precious and base metal prices.
According to Market Screener, Implats expects headline earnings for the year ended 30 June 2026 to rise to between R21.8 billion and R23.8 billion, from R700 million a year earlier.
Basic earnings are expected to reach between R30 billion and R32 billion, compared with R800 million in the previous financial year.
Mining Weekly reported that higher prices for platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and gold lifted achieved revenue per 6E ounce by 51% to R38,116.
Group 6E refined and saleable production increased 5% year-on-year to 3.56 million ounces, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation rose to about R43.6 billion. Free cash generated increased to R22 billion.
However, higher costs partly offset the gains, with group unit costs rising 8% to R24,249 per 6E ounce. The company also faced increased metal purchasing costs, taxes and royalties.
Basic earnings benefited from the reversal of R8.1 billion in impairments relating to property, plant and equipment and a prepaid royalty at Impala Rustenburg, following improved platinum group metal prices.
Implats expects to publish its full-year results on or about 3 September 2026.
