Durban – A 43-year-old woman was critically injured after she was shot multiple times while sitting in a car on Jabu Ngcobo Road near Dawncrest in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday afternoon.
Her 21-year-old passenger was also shot in the attack.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said its operations centre received several calls from members of the public reporting the shooting at about 4.26pm.
It is alleged that two men approached a white Volkswagen Golf 8 and opened fire while the two women were inside the vehicle.
“The driver was shot multiple times and left in a critical condition. Her passenger sustained a gunshot wound to her thigh,” RUSA said.
The driver is believed to have been the intended target of the shooting.
Both women were stabilised at the scene before being transported to hospital by ambulance.
“The driver appears to have been the intended target of the gunmen,” RUSA said.
The motive for the shooting had not been established.
Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and work to identify and apprehend the suspects.
