Cape Town – A 56-year-old man has been arrested in Cape Town after police and immigration officials uncovered an alleged operation involving fraudulent South African documents during a joint raid in Brooklyn.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the suspect was arrested during a coordinated operation between Maitland SAPS and the Border Management Authority (BMA).
SAPS said the operation targeted a suspect allegedly involved in the illegal sale of fraudulent South African documents.
“A collaborated operation between Maitland SAPS and the Border Management Authority personnel in Brooklyn resulted in the arrest of a 56-year-old male suspect for allegedly selling fake South African documents.”
Police said officers searched the suspect’s residence in Brooklyn, where they recovered a range of items allegedly linked to the production of fraudulent documents.

“A thorough search at the suspect’s residence in Brooklyn led to the recovery of technology equipment, fake passports and entry visas including various stamps.”
The search also uncovered blank document templates bearing South Africa’s national insignia.
“A further search resulted in the discovery of blank documents templates that had South Africa’s Coat of Arms.”
The suspect has been charged with forgery and uttering, as well as contravening the Immigration Act.
“The male suspect was apprehended for forgery and uttering charges, as well as contravention of the Immigration Act.”
Police said the suspect is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court soon as investigations continue.
