Johannesburg – HUAWEI hosted its Financial Services Industry Summit as part of Huawei South Africa Connect 2026, bringing together banking executives, insurance leaders, technology experts and ecosystem partners under the theme, Beyond Digital: Leaping into the Fintelligent Era.
The summit explored how artificial intelligence (AI), resilient digital infrastructure and industry collaboration are enabling financial institutions to unlock greater business value and accelerate their intelligent transformation.
Opening the summit, Jason Cao, CEO of Huawei Digital Finance BU, said the banking industry is entering a new era in which competitive advantage will increasingly depend on how organisations apply AI to deliver measurable business outcomes.
“As open-source models cross the trillion-parameter threshold, AI is evolving from open architecture to open compute. In an era where compute is productivity, competition in banking has shifted to token efficiency and real-world value creation,” Cao said.
He added: “Trillion-parameter models such as Kimi K3 prove that open source has officially become mainstream in banking.”
“Through our Hybrid AI Architecture, Huawei empowers financial institutions to harness massive computing power, ensuring every AI token delivers tangible business value,” Cao said.
Building on this vision, Alvin Feng, President of Huawei’s International Business Unit for Digital Finance, introduced Huawei’s digital finance solutions framework.
The framework combines autonomous, elastic infrastructure with intelligent service engines to enable intelligent interactions and deliver highly personalised services across a range of financial services scenarios, helping accelerate the sector’s digital transformation.

Financial services leaders explore how AI, cloud technologies and resilient digital infrastructure are driving the next generation of banking and insurance.
Huawei has also collaborated with its partners to develop a financial data solution that provides a strong digital and AI foundation through end-to-end AI Data Centre (AIDC) resilient infrastructure, creating new opportunities for innovation across South Africa’s financial services industry.
Luke Wang, President of Huawei Insurance BU, unveiled Huawei’s digital and intelligent insurance solution, highlighting three major trends reshaping the global insurance industry.
“Three shifts are redefining the future of global insurance: the move towards pre-incident risk prevention, increasingly personalised customer experiences, and scenario-based marketing,” Wang said.
He added: “Huawei’s digital and intelligent insurance solution supports the industry’s transformation through four key pillars: the modernisation of core insurance systems, intelligent insurance capabilities, insurance cloud upgrades, and resilient infrastructure.”
The summit also featured insights from leaders across South Africa’s financial services sector.
Senior executives from leading South African banks, together with customers and partners, shared practical experience and successful examples of digital and intelligent transformation within the industry.
Looking ahead, Huawei said it will continue working closely with customers and partners to deliver advanced ICT infrastructure and tailored solutions.
Through continued collaboration, the company aims to help build a thriving financial services ecosystem and support the next phase of South Africa’s digital and intelligent transformation.
