Pretoria – Two suspects have been arrested in Mooiplaas Informal Settlement in Erasmia following an intelligence-driven operation that led to the recovery of stolen military firearms and ammunition, the police said on Saturday.
The operation was conducted by the South African Police Service in collaboration with the South African National Defence Force on 06 June 2026 after authorities received information about firearms allegedly stolen during a burglary at a military facility in April 2026.
“Police acted on information regarding firearms allegedly stolen during a burglary at a military facility in April 2026. During the operation, members recovered two R4 rifles with ammunition, a replica firearm, and a traffic officer’s uniform,” police said in a statement.<

“Cases of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of government property, and contravention of immigration legislation have been opened against the suspects.”
Police said investigations are continuing to determine whether the suspects may be linked to other criminal activities.
The suspects are expected to appear in court once formal charges have been finalised.
