Cape Town – Police have launched an investigation into a triple murder after three men were shot and killed in Lower Crossroads, Philippi East, on Saturday evening.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the victims were sitting at a fruit and vegetable stall outside a residence in Ntloyiya Street when they came under attack at about 7.05pm.
Preliminary reports indicate that three unidentified suspects approached the premises and opened fire on the men before fleeing the scene.
The victims, all adult males, sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Western Cape detectives attached to the Provincial Serious Violent Crime Unit are investigating the killings. Police said the motive for the attack remains unknown and forms part of the ongoing investigation.
“No arrests have been made,” SAPS said in a statement.
Investigators are following up on all available leads to identify and apprehend those responsible for the shooting.
Police have also increased visibility in the area to maintain stability, prevent further violence and deter possible retaliatory attacks.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
