Polokwane – The appeal hearing in the bail case of Lekompo musician Lehlohonolo Chauke, known as Shebe Maburna, has been postponed to 12 June at the Polokwane High Court.
The delay was granted to allow the state to submit supplementary heads of argument, after prosecutors indicated that the current state advocate was not the one who prepared the original submissions.
State prosecutor Phaladi Mphahlele confirmed the need for additional preparation time.
Chauke has been in custody since his arrest in November last year and has been denied bail on three separate occasions. He is facing 20 charges, including attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and illegal possession of a firearm.
Judge Karin Pillay noted the procedural pressures in the case, saying the court acknowledged the tight timelines and changes in legal representation affecting the proceedings.
The matter will return to court for continuation of the appeal process next month.
