Cape Town – Parliament has announced the 31 MPs who will serve on the impeachment committee tasked with deciding the future of Cyril Ramaphosa over the Phala Phala scandal.
National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza revealed the names on Monday after parties submitted their nominees by the 22 May deadline.
The ANC, which has the largest representation on the committee, submitted nine members led by Doris Mpapane. Other ANC representatives include Xola Nqola, Soviet Lekganyane, Faith Muthambi, Boyce Maneli, Lusizo Makhubela and Mika Mahlaule.
The DA nominated five MPs, including parliamentary leader George Michalakis, chief whip Glynnis Breytenbach, Baxolile Nodada, Karabo Khakhau and Nazley Sharif.

The MK party will be represented by John Hlophe, Mmabatho Mokoena-Zondi and Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala, while the EFF nominated party leader Julius Malema and Omphile Maotwe.
Other parties represented on the committee include the IFP, Patriotic Alliance, Freedom Front Plus, ActionSA, ACDP, UDM, Rise Mzansi, Bosa, ATM, Al Jama-ah, National Coloured Congress and United Africans Transformation. GOOD and the PAC declined to participate because their only MPs also serve in the executive.
It remains unclear when the committee will hold its first meeting and elect a chairperson, as Ramaphosa has revived a judicial review of the Section 89 Independent Panel Report that forms the basis of the impeachment inquiry.
The move follows a recent Constitutional Court ruling sending the Phala Phala report back to Parliament, allowing the impeachment process to continue.
