Cape Town – A 37-year-old man has been arrested after police allegedly discovered more than R3 million worth of dagga loaded inside a Toyota Hilux along the N4 Road in Mpumalanga.
According to the South African Police Service, members stationed at Kaapmuiden were conducting routine patrols when they spotted a brown Toyota Hilux fitted with a canopy and bearing Mpumalanga registration plates parked on the roadside.
Police stopped to investigate and allegedly found the vehicle packed with 41 bags containing dagga.
The confiscated drugs weighed approximately 502.6kg and have an estimated street value of more than R3 million.
The suspect was arrested at the scene on charges of dealing in dagga and is expected to appear before the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
Acting Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi praised officers for their efforts in tackling drug-related crime.
Mkhwanazi commended the members for their “dedication and commitment in combating drug-related crimes and ensuring safer communities through intelligence-led operations and continued cooperation with members of the public.”
