Cape Town – The National Coloured Congress has defended its leader, Fadiel Adams, following his arrest on charges linked to allegedly obstructing the investigation into the 2017 murder of former Sindiso Magaqa.
Adams faces two counts of defeating the ends of justice and three counts of fraud and remains in custody until Wednesday.
The NCC claims the arrest is politically motivated and part of a smear campaign against Adams.

Secretary-general Sakiena Frenchman argued that Adams acted within his rights as an MP when he visited convicted hitman Sibusiso Ncengwa in prison to obtain a statement for a parliamentary presentation.
Frenchman maintained that this was a parliamentary procedural issue rather than a criminal matter.
The NCC further alleged that the Political Killings Task Team unlawfully entered Adams’ parliamentary residence during his arrest, saying parliamentary laws require security services to obtain permission before entering parliamentary precincts.
Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams’s arrest last week has drawn a sharp response from politicians, activists and members of the public, with many questioning the forcefulness of the arrest.

“We will be requesting from the Speaker of Parliament as to whether the PKTT applied for permission to enter Parliament grounds, which was allowed by Colonel Mashele,” NCC Secretary-General, Sakiena Frenchman as saying.
“Whilst Adams’ human rights and constitutional rights have been violated, there has been deafening silence from the majority of Parliamentarians, which is concerning and disappointing to say the least,” she said.
The party said it would seek clarification from the Speaker of Parliament and vowed to continue exposing corruption despite the case.
