North West – A former chief financial officer of the Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipality in the North West, and her partner, have been convicted of corruption following a tender irregularity dating back to 2018.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that Morufa Moloto (39) and Letladika Ramotoka (41) were found guilty by the Vryburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.
Their conviction relates to a case in which Moloto allegedly awarded a R185,000 tender to her partner’s company, Thatsofatso Trading & Projects, for the supply of eight laptops.
Police said the municipality paid the full amount into the company’s account, but investigations later revealed irregularities in the procurement process.
“Moloto overlooked five bidders whose quotations were less than the winning bidder,” SAPS said.
An investigation by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime unit found that R150,000 of the funds was transferred to another company, Onalerena Consulting, where Moloto was listed as a director, while only R35,000 was used to purchase the laptops.
“Through meticulous probing… it was established that R150 000 was transferred… into the business account of Onalerena Consulting,” police said.
The pair were arrested in July 2024 and released on bail before being convicted after multiple court appearances.
Their case has been postponed to 6 July 2026 for sentencing.
