Johannesburg – A 33‑year‑old woman was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after police intercepted her carrying drugs worth an estimated R1.5 million, the South African Police Service confirmed.
The suspect, from Kempton Park, was taken into custody on 25 April 2026 during an intelligence‑driven operation led by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s Vaal Rand Serious Organised Crime Unit.
Border Police and members of the Local Criminal Record Centre assisted in the bust.
Authorities said the woman was found in possession of 1.5 kilograms of cocaine and crystal methamphetamine.
She is currently being detained and will appear in court once formally charged.
Police described the arrest as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking through South Africa’s busiest airport.
