Cape Town – Tumelo Ramaphosa, the youngest son of President Cyril Ramaphosa, has showcased his collection of ankole cattle, a breed known for its long horns, lean meat, and resilience.
Like his father, who owns over 100 of these cattle, Tumelo is pursuing entrepreneurial ventures through his high-end butchery, StudEx Meat, and recently added ankole beef to his wagyu menu.
Through several Instagram posts, he displayed his ankole cattle, known for their high-grade steak.
Tumelo highlighted the beef’s tenderness, rich flavor, and health benefits, including high Omega-3 and Omega-9 levels and low cholesterol.
“From this legendary breed comes our Ankole Chuckeye steak – a tender, savoury cut from the rib end of the chuck roll. Nicknamed the mock ribeye, it delivers ribeye‑like satisfaction while being perfect for grilling. Each 3‑oz serving packs about 23 g of protein with a wealth of B‑vitamins and minerals,” Tumelo wrote.
Ankole cattle are valuable, with individual cows selling for around R500,000, and Ramaphosa previously sold one for over R2 million, aording to The South African.
The breed, indigenous to parts of Africa, is hardy, long-lived, and prized for meat, milk, leather, and horns.
The president first acquired ankole cattle from Uganda in 2004 via artificial insemination, the report said.
