Africa’s booming sports economy has a new digital champion.
AfricaPicks.com, a cross-continental platform for rugby and football betting intelligence, officially launched this month, backed by digital and social media partnerships with AfricanInsider.com, SA Rugby Magazine, SoccerMag.com, Keo.co.za, and Bona.com.
AfricaPicks will focus on data, analysis and compelling storytelling and the platform’s editorial priority is to exemplify Africa’s capacity to create homegrown digital products that compete globally and reflect local identity.
“Sport and technology are two of Africa’s fastest-growing sectors — and AfricaPicks sits perfectly at their intersection,” said African Insider editor Betha Madhomu.
“Ours is a platform that strives for authenticity, information and education, and AfricaPicks will do this for our sports readers.”
AfricaPicks will extend its coverage to all the major football and rugby leagues in Africa and internationally, giving expert picks, betting analysis, odds breakdowns and editorial features designed to educate and excite consumers of sports content.
“We think of ourselves as being more a sports playground than a classroom and we appreciate the need to entertain as much as educate the punter,” said AfricaPicks editor Oliver Keohane.
“Africa’s betting audience demands smart, credible and entertaining coverage of the sports they love. With a presence in South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Nigeria we want to become the go-to-hub for soccer betting insights, while not neglecting rugby interest, which is strong in South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Namibia.’
The platform’s ultimate goal is to build an African sports media ecosystem that connects punters, publishers and sports lovers through data, digital innovation and storytelling.
