Johannesburg – Five Gauteng traffic wardens were injured in a shooting at Daveyton railway station, Ekurhuleni, early Sunday.
Around 12 people were approached by the wardens when the suspects opened fire with high-caliber weapons, including an AK-47 and a pistol.
The injured wardens, two women and three men, are receiving hospital treatment.

The SAPS in Daveyton has opened an attempted murder case, and investigations are ongoing.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi condemned the attack, calling it a blatant disregard for the rule of law and vowing that such violence against officers will not be tolerated.
“This act of violence demonstrates utter disregard for the rule of law. Our wardens, together with law enforcement officers, serve daily on the frontlines to ensure the safety and security of our communities. Any form of violence, intimidation or interference with the work of our officers in the execution of their duties is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” said Lesufi.
