Cape Town – Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen has criticised a group of 49 Afrikaners who recently sought refugee status in the United States, saying they made a mistake by leaving.
Speaking at Nampo Harvest Day in the Free State last week, Steenhuisen highlighted South Africa’s positive trajectory under a new government and urged citizens, especially those in agriculture, to stay and help build the country.
He rejected claims of genocide or land expropriation without compensation, saying crime affects all South Africans equally.
Steenhuisen emphasised the importance of basing international decisions on facts, not misinformation.
He also welcomed the upcoming meeting between President Cyril Ramaphosa and US President Donald Trump as a chance to correct false narratives about South Africa.
